What is the process for ‘de-caffeinating’ coffee?
| The decaffeination process is based on soaking coffee beans in water and applying pressure, a natural process to remove caffeine*. Liquid CO2 from a natural origin is added to a tank of coffee beans which are soaked in water under high pressure. The liquid CO2 is then removed from the tank with a pump, along with the water and the caffeine which has now washed out of the beans. The decaffeinated beans are then dried. |
